What is gynecomastia?

Of course, plastic surgery in men is also common. These include liposuction, eyelid surgery, abdominoplasty (after weight loss) and gynecomastia corrections. To stay with the latter, what is gynecomastia? Gynecomastia is breast formation in men. Disproportionate breast formation can consist of fat, glandular and sometimes loose skin. It is often socially very disturbing because it can be visible through clothing.

What is the cause and what is the solution?

The causes are diverse and often not entirely clear. In any case, it is not true that all breast formation is caused by the use of muscle-strengthening drugs. Certain medications can also cause it, and sometimes it’s just in your build, often then in your family. Fortunately, there are several solutions. Depending on which tissue is causing the breast formation, liposuction may be performed, glandular tissue may be removed and possibly the skin tightened. Often they are combinations, most common is the combination of liposuction and gland removal.

What about the scars?

Liposuction produces only a few small incisions, if they heal normally you see almost nothing. The same goes for gland removal, which is done through a crescent-shaped incision on the underside of the areola. Skin tightening does result in more scarring, which depends on how much skin must be removed to restore the breast to its proper shape.

After surgery

Must wear a corset for 4-6 weeks to properly compress the skin and prevent fluid buildup under the wound as much as possible. You may move your arms normally but do not do heavy work or exercise with your arms for the first few weeks. You may also just shower. You come back for a checkup after 2 weeks and after 3 months. These are the regular checks but in addition, of course, you are always welcome if there should be anything in between. Essenza Clinics works with a shift system, just like in a hospital, so that someone is always on call, including nights and weekends.

Results and retention of effect

Immediately after surgery, you can already see that the excess volume at the breasts is gone. Afterwards, some swelling will occur but it often goes away after a few weeks. At first, the nipple may be a little deeper than the surrounding area but that actually always recedes. The wounds are closed internally with soluble suture material; there are no sutures on the outside. No drains are left behind either. There are suture patches over the wound that help the skin heal without tension. Gynecomastia surgery is a rewarding procedure that often makes a big difference: the excess breast volume is gone and the breasts have a normal contour again. Any social restrictions have also disappeared with it.
